Meet the maker.

I’m Christopher Caulkins, a US Navy veteran and the leather maker behind BeardManLeather.

At the bench, I cut, tool, dye, and stitch wallets, belts, totes, and custom pieces. A lot of my tooling leans Sheridan floral. Every piece is made one at a time in my shop in Delaware, Ohio, built to hold up and to look like it came from a real shop, not a factory.

I work with top quality full grain leather, like Horween and Hermann Oak. I hand stitch where it counts, finish every edge with care, and use finishes made for daily carry.

From the Navy to the Bench

I served four years in the US Navy as a Radioman, stationed in Guam aboard two submarine tenders, the USS Proteus and the USS Holland. Tenders keep the fleet running, and the Navy taught me that small details matter and that a job is done right or not at all.

Leather started with a small camp axe. I wanted a sheath for it, so I made one. Then I made another, pretty rough one. Then a Bible cover for my wife, then a minimalist wallet, and I haven't stopped since.

I bring that same patience and pride to every piece I make. I take my time, and nothing leaves my bench until it's right.

Earned, Not Faked.

Horween has been tanning leather in Chicago since 1905, and it's still one of the best hides made in America. I use their full grain pull-up leather for my totes because it gets better the more you carry it.

Every crease at the handles and every darkened edge becomes part of the bag. A light scuff rubs right out with your thumb, and over time the color deepens into a patina that's yours alone. No factory finish can fake that.

I cut and finish every tote at my bench in Delaware, Ohio, with a mix of hand and machine stitching. One maker, no shortcuts. Built to last decades, not a season.
